Le Creuset is a name synonymous with premium and colourful cookware. I was a little bit surprised when I found out the company makes a wok because I thought they only focused on traditional French or Western items. This is a Le Creuset Wok review in which I give my honest opinion on whether it’s good quality and worth your money.
Le Creuset Wok Review: Quick Verdict
The Le Creuset wok is a beautiful high-quality piece of cooking equipment that performs well at making Thai food and other Asian cuisines. Sumptuous stir-fries, creamy curries, and soups are all possible in this wok. I would give it 4.5 stars out of 5.
When I checked, the product was unfortunately only available in European versions of Amazon. You can view Le Creuset’s full store on Amazon U.S. to see if that has changed. The company also has its own website, which may have more of a selection. If you are interested in other Le Creuset products, I can highly recommend the following (all available in the US):
Full Review
The wok is cast iron with a 4.7-litre capacity and 32 cm (16.6-inch) diameter. It comes in 3 gorgeous colours: Cherry Red, Matte Black, and Oven Red. My personal favourite is the cherry red palette because the football (soccer) team I support wear red (Manchester United) so I’ve always liked the colour red!
The wok comes with a glass lid. The weight comes in at 5.5 kg which is 12.1 pounds. The interior finish is black enamel.
Here are some of the specific pros that make this Le Creuset wok review such a glowing one:
✅ The easy-grip handles are very practical additions that make it easy to lift the wok and serve food conveniently straight from wok to plate without making a mess. They also make it easy to shake the wok and toss ingredients.
✅ Suitable for all hob types: I’ve bought many pots, pans, and woks that weren’t suitable for induction cookers so it’s refreshing to get something that’s suited to all hob types.
✅ Very easy to clean: a couple of wipes is all it took for me to clean the residue of a Thai green curry I cooked in the wok. It’s also dishwasher safe.
✅ Sturdy as hell: this is a wok that justifies its high cost because it will likely last you for years.
✅ Non-stick: the non-stick aspect is excellent which makes for hassle-free stir-frying.
The sturdy construction, aesthetically pleasing looks, practicality, and ease of cleaning all combine to make my Le Creuset wok review a (mostly) enthusiastic one.
Of course, the positives are all nice to hear about, but it’s important to be honest about the drawbacks to help you make more informed decisions. In my opinion, the two main drawbacks of this particular wok are:
❌ Pricey: like most Le Creuset products, it doesn’t come cheap.
❌ Slow Heating: Compared to carbon steel, which is the best material for a wok, this cast iron one heats a bit slower and takes longer to get to its hottest.
Is it Worth Buying a Le Creuset?
Yes, Le Creuset is a premium manufacturer known for their high-quality products. Even though the cost might be higher, it represents a significant investment in professional-grade cookware.
I would recommend this wok if you want to upgrade your own kitchen equipment or buy a gift for a loved one. Because Le Creuset is well-known as one of the more premium or luxury cookware types, this wok would make an excellent wedding or Christmas gift.
Why is Le Creuset so Expensive?
Le Creuset is so expensive because the company is over 100 years old, it uses the highest quality materials in manufacturing, and it provides a lifetime guarantee!
As an experiment, buy a cheap cast iron pot or pan in your local Walmart. Use it regularly and you’ll notice that the enamel quickly begins to chip and crack. Use your Le Creuset cookware and it will take a very long time for your products to experience wear and tear. That is the Le Creuset difference.
As the old saying goes, “buy nice or by twice.”
Is Le Creuset Healthy Cookware?
Yes, Le Creuset makes healthy cooking equipment because it uses enamel-coated cast iron. The benefits of enamel coating are that it doesn’t react with any type of food and it is completely non-toxic. Just beware that if the enamel starts to chip, it’s probably time to replace it (this will take a very long time with Le Creuset).
Does Le Creuset Need to be Seasoned?
No, the Le Creuset wok does not need to be seasoned. In fact, according to the company’s website, all cast iron products are fully sealed with two coats of premium enamel and don’t need seasoning. This means you can get cooking stir-frying your favourite Thai dishes as straight from the box.
Final Verdict
If you’re looking for a top-range wok that will last a long time, you can’t go wrong with this wok. Fully recommended for Thai food and all other Asian cuisines.
