This Proclamation Duo review is likely to please the minimalists out there. It’s quite a unique set in that it consists of just two pans and a lid while claiming to do it all. (And living up to that claim)
If you are looking to minimize the number of pans and pots in your kitchen, the Proclamation Duo is an excellent investment. Read on for all the important details.
“Cook More with Less”
The company’s marketing is definitely on-point with this slogan. “Cook more, with less” is going to appeal to any minimalist out there who doesn’t want a cluttered kitchen full of pots and pans. But does the Proclamation Duo live up to this minimalist kitchen ambition?
In a word, yes!
Full Proclamation Duo Review
The set is composed of two pans and a matching lid. Some people prefer to describe such a set as 3-piece but I personally don’t believe lids count. I am calling it a 2-piece set with a lid.
The individual pans stand alone as a skillet and hybrid pot. The skillet has a 12-inch diameter. The hybrid pot holds 7 quarts (6.62 liters).
Magic happens when you put the hybrid pot and skillet together to use as a Dutch oven. Adding this third functionality means you can cook almost anything you want in any way you want.
In fact, the Proclamation Duo lets you use the following cooking methods with just two pieces of equipment (and a lid):
✓ Saute
✓ Sear
✓ Roast
✓ Stir-fry
✓ Boil
✓ Deep-fry
✓ Griddle
✓ Braise
✓ Pan-fry
✓ Bake
✓ Simmer
✓ Sous Vide
✓ Poach
✓ Steam
That’s quite the extensive list, I’m sure you’ll agree. From a Thai food perspective, the main cooking methods are stir-frying, boiling, deep-frying, and steaming. So it’s safe to say the Proclamation Duo covers you for Thai food cooking plus plenty more besides.
Aside from the versatility of this set, some other benefits you might find appealing from Proclamation Goods products include:
- Toxin-free—the company is against the use of any chemical coatings in its cookware.
- US-manufactured—Proclamation Goods partners with a family-owned US-based manufacturing company to ensure quality.
- Responsible Supply Chain—fair working conditions are prioritized throughout the supply chain and the company works to minimize its environmental footprint.
Proclamation Duo Review: Specific Features
Skillet
Starting out with the skillet, the company calls it a “sidekick skillet”; a poetic use of alliteration that rolls off the tongue.
The design of the skillet is such that it slots perfectly into the hybrid pot. It curves from the base to the side walls of the skillet, enabling easy access for any cooking utensils.
The cooking surface is wide and flat, and the pan is deep enough for frying or tossing pasta in your favorite sauce.
The handle is also very well-designed, with both practicality and functionality in mind. It has a dual finish, ensuring it stays cool in the heat of your kitchen while also providing a secure grip.
The skillet can withstand oven and stovetop temperatures of up to 500℉, which is 260-degrees Celsius. It weighs 3.5 pounds, which is on the heavier side, but at least you know you’re getting durable material that isn’t flimsy.
Hybrid Pot
The hybrid pot is an interesting appliance that doubles as a stockpot and wok (hence the “hybrid” name). From looking at the hybrid pot, it’s easy to see how you can use it to cook things like soups and stocks. Its feasibility as a wok is less obvious, though.
My set happened to arrive on the day I planned to cook up a storm for my Thai partner and my daughter with my famous stir-fried morning glory recipe. This gave me the perfect opportunity to test its claimed use as a wok.
To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised. It doesn’t look like your typical wok, but in terms of stir-frying, the end result was pleasant. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and the heat was sufficient to get the dish cooked within the 1-2 minute timeframe typical of food fried rapidly at high temperatures.
I also like the hollow handle because it doubles as a spoon holder. I’ve no idea if that was intentional, but it works! Also, it’s very heat-resistant so no unexpected pain when grabbing it on the hot stove.
Dutch Oven
The skillet and stockpot slot together seamlessly to create a Dutch oven, which is ideal for sautéing, simmering, and braising. A surprising number of Thai dishes require braising, including the famous stewed pork leg recipe found widely across Thailand. So a big plus from that perspective.
To get the Dutch oven you just turn the empty skillet upside down and align the hinge with that of the hybrid pot. They lock together pretty niftily.
Overall, the individual cookware pieces of the Proclamation Duo are high-quality with superb performance and excellent craftsmanship. I’m not going to review the lid because well…it’s a lid!
What Material is the Proclamation Duo Made From?
The hybrid pot is stainless steel. You do get some freedom to choose the material for your skillet: either stainless steel or carbon steel.
Personally, I recommend the carbon steel skillet. I invariably find that carbon steel works better for skillets; it’s a better material for high-temperature frying and has much better non-stickability.
Proclamation Duo Use Tips
Regardless of the material you opt for, cooking with this set straight out of the box is not recommended. You should wash both the skillet and the pot in warm soapy water before initial use. This removes any residue from the manufacturing process.
Carbon steel often requires seasoning before first use, but the Proclamation Duo arrives pre seasoned. So bear that in mind if you opt for this material in your skillet.
How Much is the Proclamation Duo?
The big question. The Proclamation Duo comes in at $379 or $34.55 monthly if you choose to take up the credit option.
While this does admittedly sound like a significant investment, it’s worth it when you consider what Proclamation Goods offers as part of its price point:
✓ Lifetime Warranty: The company provides a lifetime guarantee for its cookware.
✓ Free Shipping: Shipping to your door is completely free of charge.
✓ Free Returns: Don’t like the product and want to return it? That’s free too!
✓ 30-Day Trial: If you don’t like this set you can return it within 30 days and get your money back.
I am always impressed when a company is so confident in its products that it offers free shipment, free returns, and a free 30-day trial. The lifetime warranty just adds to the value.
Essentially, you’re getting offered a risk-free trial of a premium minimalist cooking set. All you need to do is send it back (for free) if you don’t like it. And 30 days is clearly more than enough time to come to a conclusion.
Closing Thoughts
Whether you want to declutter your own kitchen, you’re just starting out your cooking endeavors, or you want to buy a great culinary gift for a loved one’s special occasion, the high-quality craftsmanship of the Proclamation Duo makes it a worthy investment.
